Dragon Kill Points
At the end of CB2 I learned about DKP while building this website when the legion was just a puddle of thought. To be honest, I never delt with DKP before and I had this in mind for the legion of course, but at the moment I see no reason to set up EQdkp or anything. Do I understand it now? A little, but it's something I got to experience myself. How many of you experienced a guild with DKP? EDIT Also it might just be a pain in the ass to do this, because things would have to be manuly set in. For other big games that are out like AoC, WoW, EQ, EQ2, etc. They have that stuff set. Going to be even a bigger pain if I have to count upon that when it comes to medals distribution for siege. |

We have been in more than one guild with DKP. The largest by far was an extreme high level guild in EQ2 that was built around DKP. There are some advantages and some disadvantages. Main advantage being that the regulars build more points and in theory have more to spend. Sometimes it was obsurd because they would have so much built up that any time something really special drops they would always be able to get it. So a few are extremely decked out and most have a couple of decent items is what usually happens.
On the flip side is the members who do not build their entire life around the game and the guild almost always get screwed. I remember one time when the guild leaders wife held up an entire raid to bring on her second alt to get a special master spell that she "won/bought" even though two wizards were in the raid that could have used it. They had not been around long enough to be able to out bid her. By the way, both quit the guild on the spot, in the middle of the raid (one was one of our sons I might add). The knife cuts with both edges. A little decency and discreation goes a long way. Yes some are avid fans of DKP. Almost always they are the players who's entire life is built around the game. The semi-hardcore player who also has a real life tends to get screwed in a DKP system. In my view these are also the core members of any good guild. As you can probably tell, I am not a big fan of DKP systems. There really is no perfect system. Making decessions based on your heart and fair play is really all that is needed. Giving a drop to who realy needs it (on their main) and attempting to track who has gotten the drops so that all solid members feel the love is what matters in my humble opinion.

Pretty much 100% agree with Sprok on this... nothing will suck the life out of a community like a DKP system... if you get behind for some reason and feel like there is no chance for anything rewarding until you grind an instance another 10 times, it just kills the incentive and joy... it accentuates what can already feel like a treadmill 100x.
having said that, setting expectations CLEARLY up front before a raid (or establishing standard rules) and trying to be fair-minded (and having mature people in the guild - probably the most important factor by far) will go a long way. The best system I saw was "If you participate in an event, you have a chance to receive any item you NEED". Then once you get one on that raid, you go to the back of the line... Didn't matter if you did an instance once or 100 times (god, please I hope Aion doesn't force this crap like WoW did), you had a chance to be rewarded for helping the team on that instance. Yes, this brings up issues of "who goes on the raid," but that didn't seem to be much of an issue in practice. So for example, if there are 2 sorcerers on a raid and both need a drop of a sweet sorc-only chest piece, they randomly roll and the one that wins gets the item... the next sorc item that drops goes to the other.... If an item drops that can be used by ANYONE, the same applies (but people generally were not jerks about rolling on an item that had all "Magic Boost" when they were a templar even though technically they could wear the item (jewelry for example)). People tried to respect eachother and gently remind eachother about this stuff and if anyone joined the guild who just seemed to be a bit too grabby and greedy and demanding, there was no fuss, no discussion, they were simply gone. Anyway, I will follow whatever system we adopt - key is to be clear and decisive early on so that people know what to expect, Rune |

From what I've read of Rdragoon so far the type of people we want in the legion would actually make the lets be nice system work, and if the people in the legion caused trouble over it, its probably not the best legion for them

Agree with evrything said, and maybe we should switch Sprok there to the wise sage position - after all, basically everything that comes out of his mouth is sage like

I'm seeking wisdom. (and ask a ton of questions in the mean time.) I wanna be like Sprok! ![]() (and yeah, I completely agree. When I was in a top ranked, very competative guild, dkp system was perfect because we all made it a job to be raiding every night from 5 -10 pm. I already have a day job. I don't want raiding to ever be a job again. Got entirely too burned out and took a year off from playing mmorpgs.)
